Textures form such an important component of the garden. I love this spot in the rock garden, where the African daisies bloom above the pine needle and mesquite mulch. Ornamental grasses grow nearby, and, of course, the river rocks sit amongst the mulch.
I collected the river rocks myself our second winter here. I drove down to the dry river bed across town, near where we used to live, and hauled up these beautiful rocks and stones, filling the back of our Subaru with them. Some are granite. Some are softer, smoother, shiny rust-colored domes.
The lizards are happy I brought the rocks back here–these rocks are what make the rock garden a favorite lizard hang-out!
