Goldfinch Garden

I’ve been hanging out with this fledgling goldfinch on many mornings. He loves to perch above the sitting area and chirp while his father circles, singing and whistling.

“What’s that little guy?” Jim asked me. “He’s got a top-knot!”

The little goldfinches look crested, with their ruff of feathers sticking straight up on their crown.

The fledgling was making so much noise that this Lucy’s warbler came to check him out. Soon, we had a mixed flock surrounding us, as a yellow warbler, a pair of verdin, some thrashers, and brown towhees came to join the fun.

This is my idea of a morning coffee circle!
