Coreopsis, or tickseed, is said to be a finch’s favorite. In my garden, it’s the butterflies, especially skippers, that love them.

This bloom made me especially happy because it’s from a plant that I planted in the container garden last summer. Coreopsis are reputed to be perennials, but for a plant to survive the desert summer and live to bloom the next spring is a feat worth celebrating!

Now, I’m inspired to buy more coreopsis this summer when I’m thinking of the butterfly garden.
