On the first Sunday in April, my favorite nursery begins to sell roses. That’s when our region is officially out of frost season, and so to celebrate roses are for sale.
We’ve bought several over the past years. Currently, a midnight owl rose, a yellow-peach tea rose, and a climbing peach-colored rose still thrive. The others, like this beautiful and fragrant tea rose in this photo, haven’t survived.
We love roses. We’re always tempted to buy several.
But I think I’ll practice restraint. Three thriving rose plants is plenty for our garden. I’ll direct my urges to acquire towards milkweed and other native butterfly plants this year.
